Hot Air Balloon Flights
... in Essex
Patchwork quilts in different hues of green, quaint villages and picturesque
towns - all part of the scenery when you're touring the Essex countryside
thousands of feet up in a hot air balloon.
According to the will of the winds, your flight may carry you over the mediaeval
town of Witham on the banks of the River Brain, or up over the forested slopes
of the River Colne and the town of Wivenhoe. The Essex landscape is dotted with
windmills which can be seen from the air, including the one built by John Webb
at Thaxted that is considered a masterpiece.
The flight paths often overlook the small and picturesque local town of
Billericay, an area of wooded country with a number of Georgian and period
houses standing out as landmarks, and over the nearby Norsey Wood Nature
Reserve.
The historic town of Chelmsford, county town since the 14th Century, provides
another interesting vista along the route, and with its mix of historic
architecture and modern-day activity can be a final highlight for a balloon trip
over this beautiful English county area.
