City of London balloon set to fly in Arizona

A hot air balloon that is used to promote the Lord Mayor’s Appeal will fly at the 2015 Lake Havasu Balloon Festival and Fair. The craft will be the star of the US show, which will take place between the 16th and 18th of January. Mark S. Nexsen, the Mayor of Lake Havasu City in Arizona, specifically asked that the balloon attend the festival. The promotional hot air balloon was created in 2013 with the help of the advertising firm Exclusive Ballooning, which specialises in aerial marketing. It first flew from the Tower of London during the same year. Andrew Holly, who is the director of Exclusive Ballooning, will pilot the craft. He is also the current British National Hot Air Balloon Champion and has famously won the title for three years running. In 2008, he was even awarded the Freedom of the City of London. Fittingly, the City of London hot air balloon will fly over New London Bridge as part of the festival celebrations. In 1967, the Common Council of the City of London sold ‘New’ London Bridge to entrepreneur Robert P. McCulloch from Missouri. The bridge had spanned the Thames from 1831, and was designed and built by John Rennie. After being sold to McCulloch, it was dismantled and reassembled in Arizona. The bridge reopened there in 1971. The Aberdeen Asset Management hot air balloon will also attend the festival. This balloon also launched in 2013 and has been used at corporate events, including one held next to Loch Ness.
