The South West county of Gloucestershire is a jewel in the crown of England. The vibrant county is comprised of parts of the Cotswold Hills and is home to the Forest of Dean, as well as the River Severn, making it a haven of wildlife. It’s the perfect place to visit if you enjoy dramatic landscapes, sweeping hills and all manner of wonderful flora and fauna. There is no doubt that visiting the county in the warm summer months is ideal, because not only is the weather likely to be much better from walking on the hills, visiting the forest and picnicking by the river, but there are also lots of activities and events to get involved in. Here are just some of the things you can do in Gloucestershire this summer: Hot air balloon rides over the Forest of Dean Hot air balloon rides are without a doubt one of the best ways to explore places like Gloucestershire, and the Forest of Dean in particular, because they give you a birds eye view of all that is going on below, from the deer that roam free in the forest, to the ancient trees that provide shelter for so many of the forest’s animals. Celebrity Dusty Duck Trail Taking place between 9 July – 10 September the Dusty Duck Trail at WWT Slimbridge is a great family event, which has been put together to celebrate the popular attraction’s 70th anniversary. The trail will feature a number of giant animal models that have been created by a number of celebrities. The trail will also feature a number of outdoor activities including nest building, and flamingo information sessions, to keep all members of the family busy. Gloucester City Museum’s Robot Exhibition Thanks to the likes of Transformers and Wall-e, robots are extremely popular with people of all ages at the moment, which is why a trip to the Robot exhibition in Gloucester is likely to be received well by all members of the family, young and old. The event will feature a number of instantly recognizable robots from TV and cinema, including Kryten from cult TV show Red Dwarf, Iron Man, and even the Terminator. The exhibition takes place from 16th July until 27th August. Prestbury Ghost Tour Those of you who love to feel a shiver down your spine and the flesh on your arms rise, will delight in this scary event, which takes place on 29 July, and which features the most terrifying local tales, including that of the Black Abbott and the medieval Messenger.
