Hot air balloon flight is top prize at fundraiser

A fundraiser being organised in York is offering a hot air balloon flight as one of the many raffle prizes. Carole Henson, a hairdresser from York, is organising a fundraising event to be held in May to repay the kindness and support she received whilst battling breast cancer. York Against Cancer helped Carole in 2014, when she was diagnosed with the disease. The charity provided transport to take her to Leeds for radiotherapy sessions, along with some much needed morale boosting treats, including a make-over and an exercise programme tailored to someone recovering from cancer. According to Carole, she had always promised that once she was feeling better she would try to repay the organisation. This has led her to team up with Joanne Macpherson, who is the landlady of the Dick Turpin pub in York, to hold a fun day to raise money. Macpherson says that she had previously held a charity fundraiser which raised £4,500 and hadn't planned any more. However, when she heard of Carole's plans, she says she couldn't resist. Acomb Fire Station will be joining in the action, as White Watch will be taking their engine along to the event. Carole will be setting up a stall selling her own crafts and jewellery, while the family can enjoy a tombola, bouncy castle, ice cream and more. The raffle prizes include a hot air balloon ride, tickets for a York City Knights rugby game, a gyrocopter ride and an Elemis facial. The event will take place on 7th May, with music, entertainment and much more.
