Philippine balloon festival preparations begin
The Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta (PIHABF) is getting ready to launch its 19th gathering next year.
Renowned as “A Weekend of Everything that Flies”, the event will take place at a Philippine Air Force base in Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga.
The fiesta was agreed upon in Pasay City, at the Asian Air Safari hangar. This comes after the foundation created for PIHABF announced its separation from another organisation, which recently held its own hot air balloon festival in nearby Lubao. The statement said:
“From the perspective of the PIHABF organisers, our 2013 event would be a hard act to follow without allowing sufficient time to plan, prepare and book new and interesting activities.”
The PIHABF Foundation added that this year’s suspended festival would allow for time to create a “truly safe and world-class event” for next year.
The festival boasts to showcase the best of aviation from the country and around the world, with visitors to the February 12th-15th, 2015, event expecting multiple flying activities, including radio controlled fliers, kite flying, and electric and turbine jets.
There will additionally be paramotors performing display and formation flying, tandem jumping and sky diving exhibitions.
Pilots who have made significantly positive contributions to the safety standards or interests in aviation around their region will be awarded The Aviator of the Year Award. Meanwhile, a showcase of local flight schools will be on display to raise public awareness of flying opportunities in the Southeast Asian state.
The money raised by the festival will be donated to a scholarship program that helps underprivileged young people to follow an aviation career.
