Planning underway for Louisiana balloon festival

Plans for the next hot air balloon festival in Gonzales, Louisiana are well under way, with entertainment for all the family to be included in addition to the hot air balloons.

The 2016 Ascension Hot Air Balloon Festival takes place on the 23rd and 24th September at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center. According to Kenny Matassa, the Parish President, in a recent press release, the balloon council has assembled a line-up of attractions, entertainment and food for the whole weekend.

On each of the two nights, the skies will be lit up by over 30 hot air balloons, including three which will be specially designed. Tethered balloon rides will be available, weather conditions permitting, followed by a fireworks display.

Robert Ambeau, the flight operations chief, stated that there would be a museum this year, showcasing hot air balloons and accessories, located in the 4-H Building conference rooms. In addition to the balloons, festival goers will be treated to a display of powered parachute flights and Kewl Kites, large kites which are created in various shapes.

Live music will be another highlight of the festival, along with competitions. A classic car show will also be available. Officials warned that the balloon glow and tethered rides will only be available in suitable weather conditions.

Hot air balloon rides are a special treat for many, especially as people don’t often get to see a balloon close up. They are often booked to celebrate a special occasion for friends and family.
