See Yorkshire’s historic landmarks from a new point of view

If you are a lover of British history, there can be no greater delight than taking to the Yorkshire skies for a hot air balloon ride that’s steeped in history. York in particular is a great place to soak in the history of this northern region as you have never seen it before. Even if you are a regular visitor to the city, you will be astonished by your favourite historic sites as you see them from a completely different vantage point.

Must-see landmarks to look out for

If you do decide to take the plunge and book a hot air balloon ride in Yorkshire, here are some of the most spectacular sights you should keep a historian’s eye out for:

Scarborough Castle

This magnificent building has been around for more than 2,500 years. Not only is it a spectacular sight in itself, but the views of the plunging cliffs and raging seas that lie near the castle are a sight to behold too.

Rievaulx Abbey

Rievaulx Abbey is located in the north of the county, and it would be fair to say it’s one of the most beautiful abbeys in the country, nestled as it is amongst brooding moorlands that instantly call to mind scenes from Emily Brontë’s classic novel, Wuthering Heights.

Whitby Abbey

Lovers of all things Gothic will be praying their balloon floats over this Abbey, which is known for its connections with the Dracula story and a number of well known saints. Of course, there’s more to Yorkshire than history, there are plenty of natural wonders including the RSPB Old Moor Land Nature Reserve, The North York Moors National Park, Howardian Hills, and Forest of Bowland all waiting to be explored by brave hot air balloon adventurers too.
